Alex Nylander has signed a one-year, two-way contract with the Calgary Flames, the team announced. The deal comes after the forward attended training camp on a professional tryout.

Nylander, selected eighth overall by the Buffalo Sabres in the 2016 NHL Draft, appeared in just 19 games for Buffalo before being traded. His time with the Sabres never matched the expectations that came with his draft position.

Since leaving Buffalo, Nylander has moved between organizations without finding a permanent role. He has spent time with the Chicago Blackhawks and Pittsburgh Penguins, along with extended stretches in the American Hockey League. Despite flashes of offensive skill, consistency at the NHL level has remained out of reach.

The Flames represent another chance for the 26-year-old to prove he belongs. A two-way contract means he can be assigned to the minors, but strong play could earn him time in Calgary.

For a player once considered a top prospect, this opportunity carries weight. Nylander has the talent. The question is whether he can finally put it together.
