Bears Quarterback Caleb Williams Misses Wednesday Practice

October 7, 2026 - 20:58

Chicago Bears quarterback Caleb Williams was absent from the team's practice session on Wednesday, marking the first missed workout of the week for the rookie signal caller. The team has not yet released specific details regarding the reason for his absence, leaving his status for the upcoming game uncertain.

Head coach Matt Eberflus is expected to address the situation during his next media availability. Until then, the nature of Williams' absence remains unclear. It could be related to an injury, a personal matter, or simply a scheduled rest day, though the team has not confirmed any of these possibilities.

If Williams is unable to play this weekend, the Bears would likely turn to their backup quarterback to lead the offense. That scenario would present a significant challenge for a team that has been building its offensive identity around the first overall draft pick.

Williams has shown flashes of promise during his rookie campaign, displaying the arm talent and mobility that made him a highly touted prospect. His development remains a central focus for the organization as it evaluates the roster and plans for the future.

The Bears are scheduled to return to the practice field on Thursday. All eyes will be on whether Williams is able to participate. The team is expected to provide an update on his condition following Wednesday's session, which could clarify his availability moving forward.
