It has been nearly three decades since the Dallas Cowboys last played in an NFC Championship Game. That drought is not something lost on franchise legend Troy Aikman, who was the quarterback the last time the team reached that stage back in 1996.
Aikman recently made it clear that he is not satisfied with the direction of the organization. While the Cowboys have put together solid regular seasons, they have failed to translate that into deep playoff runs. Aikman pointed out that the standard in Dallas has always been about winning championships, not just competing in January.
He did not hold back when discussing the team's recent playoff failures. According to Aikman, the Cowboys have had enough talent to make a serious push, but something has been missing when it matters most. He stressed that the window for the current core of players is not unlimited, and the front office needs to make the right moves now.
The Hall of Fame quarterback also touched on the pressure facing the coaching staff and the roster. He believes the organization cannot keep making excuses or pointing to injuries and bad luck. At some point, results have to match expectations.
Cowboys fans have heard similar messages before, but hearing it from Aikman carries extra weight. He knows what it takes to win in Dallas, and he is putting the franchise on notice that patience is running thin.
