Philadelphia Phillies outfielder Kyle Schwarber, who currently leads Major League Baseball in home runs, has confirmed he will take part in the 2024 Home Run Derby. The event is scheduled for July 13 at Globe Life Field in Arlington, Texas. Schwarber, a former standout at Middletown High School in Delaware, has been on a tear this season, crushing 22 homers before the All-Star break. His powerful left-handed swing and ability to hit tape-measure shots make him a natural fit for the competition.
This will be Schwarber's second appearance in the derby. He previously participated in 2018 while playing for the Chicago Cubs, where he advanced to the second round before falling to eventual winner Bryce Harper. Now in his second full season with the Phillies, Schwarber has become a fan favorite in Philadelphia for his clutch hitting and leadership in the clubhouse. His selection comes as no surprise, given his consistent power numbers and the fact that he has been one of the most feared hitters in the National League this year.
The Home Run Derby field is expected to include several other top sluggers, though the full roster has not yet been announced. Schwarber will look to become the first Phillies player to win the event since Ryan Howard did so in 2006. Fans in Philadelphia are already buzzing about the possibility of their star bringing home the trophy.
