A Minneapolis bar that puts women's athletics front and center has been named the best local sports bar in the United States. A Bar of Their Own, which opened in 2024, is the only bar in Minnesota dedicated exclusively to women's sports. The recognition comes from a national survey that ranked it above hundreds of other contenders across the country.
The bar was founded by Jillian Hiscock, who saw a gap in the market for a space where fans could watch women's basketball, soccer, volleyball, and hockey without having to hunt for a single screen showing the game. Every television in the establishment is tuned to women's sports, and the menu features items named after famous female athletes. The atmosphere is designed to feel inclusive and celebratory, drawing in families, college students, and longtime sports fans alike.
Since opening, the bar has become a gathering spot for local teams and supporters of the Minnesota Lynx, the University of Minnesota women's teams, and the new professional women's hockey league. The national award highlights how demand for women's sports coverage and community spaces continues to grow. Owners say they plan to expand their hours and add more events to keep up with the surge in interest. For now, regulars say the real win is simply having a place where women's sports finally get top billing.
