North Dakota State Projected for Conference Change After Strong FBS Start

October 4, 2026 - 03:55

North Dakota State has made a strong impression since moving up to the FBS level, and analysts now expect the program to pursue a conference change in the near future. The Bison have quickly shown they can compete against larger programs, carrying over the winning culture that defined their long run of success in the FCS.

That early momentum has fueled speculation about where the team might land next. Conference realignment continues to reshape college football, and North Dakota State's brand, fan base, and on-field results make the program an attractive option for leagues looking to add strength and national visibility.

A move would mark another significant step in the school's athletic evolution. It could bring tougher competition, more exposure, and new recruiting advantages. It would also raise expectations for a program already accustomed to winning at a high level.

While nothing is finalized, the projections reflect growing confidence that North Dakota State will not stay put for long. The Bison have proven they belong, and the next chapter may involve a bigger stage and a new conference home.
