Seattle Seahawks head coach Mike Macdonald has confirmed that rookie running back Jadarian Price will not suit up for Saturday's preseason game against the Dallas Cowboys. The decision comes as a surprise to some fans who were eager to see the undrafted free agent out of Notre Dame take the field for the first time in a Seahawks uniform.
Macdonald addressed the media on Thursday, stating that Price is dealing with a minor issue that the team wants to be cautious about. The coach did not go into extensive detail but made it clear that holding Price out is a precautionary measure rather than a long-term concern. "We just want to be smart with him right now," Macdonald said. "There is no reason to push things this early in the preseason."
Price has been turning heads during training camp with his quick burst and vision between the tackles. He joined the Seahawks after going undrafted in the 2025 NFL Draft, and many analysts saw him as a potential steal given his production at the collegiate level. However, with the regular season still a few weeks away, the coaching staff is prioritizing his long-term availability over getting him preseason reps.
The Seahawks are expected to lean heavily on their established backfield duo of Kenneth Walker III and Zach Charbonnet this season. Price is competing for a depth role and a possible spot on the practice squad. Saturday's game against the Cowboys will now serve as an opportunity for other running backs on the roster to make their case.
Seattle's next preseason contest after the Dallas matchup will be against the Cleveland Browns, and it remains unclear whether Price will be cleared to play by then. Macdonald hinted that the team will reassess his status early next week. For now, the rookie will have to keep working on the sideline and wait for his chance to prove himself in game action.
