The Tennessee Lady Vols closed out the regular season with a tough loss on the road, falling to Missouri 4-2 in Columbia on Sunday. The defeat snapped a five-game winning streak for Tennessee and left the team with a 38-16 overall record heading into postseason play.
Missouri struck first in the bottom of the second inning, plating two runs on a pair of hits and a Tennessee error. The Tigers added another run in the third to take a 3-0 lead. Tennessee answered in the top of the fourth when Kiki Milloy launched a solo home run to left field, cutting the deficit to 3-1. The Vols threatened again in the fifth, loading the bases with two outs, but Missouri pitcher Cierra Harrison induced a groundout to escape the jam.
The Tigers extended their lead in the sixth with a sacrifice fly. Tennessee mounted a final rally in the seventh, scoring once on an RBI single by Rylie West, but the tying run was left stranded at second base. Harrison went the distance for Missouri, scattering seven hits while striking out six.
Tennessee now turns its attention to the SEC Tournament, which begins later this week in Fayetteville, Arkansas. The Lady Vols will enter as the No. 6 seed and face an opponent to be determined.
