Serena Williams leaves door open for playing singles at Wimbledon

Serena Williams has not closed the door on playing singles at Wimbledon this year, even as she prepares to reunite with her sister Venus in the doubles draw. The 23-time Grand Slam champion, who has not played a singles match since retiring from the All England Club last year due to injury, said she is taking things day by day but remains open to the possibility.

"I'm not ruling anything out," Williams said in a press conference. "I've been training hard, and I want to see how I feel on the grass."

The Williams sisters will compete together in doubles for the first time in four years, a reunion that has generated significant excitement among fans. The pair have won six Wimbledon doubles titles together, most recently in 2016. Their last Grand Slam doubles appearance was at the 2018 French Open.

Venus, who has also faced injury setbacks in recent years, expressed enthusiasm about teaming up with her younger sister again. "It's always special to play with Serena," she said. "We have a chemistry that's hard to replicate."

While Serena's focus remains on doubles for now, she acknowledged that the singles draw could still be a possibility if her body responds well to the grass court training sessions. Wimbledon begins next week, and the entry list for singles has already been finalized, but wildcard options remain open for late additions.

The 40-year-old American has not won a singles title since the 2017 Australian Open, but she reached the Wimbledon final in 2018 and 2019, losing both times. Her last competitive singles match was a first-round loss at Wimbledon last year, where she retired with an injury after falling on the grass.
