South Dakota football has opened the season with three straight wins for the first time since 2017 after handling Eastern Washington 41-23 on Sunday in Vermillion.
The Coyotes moved to 3-0 behind an offense that found its rhythm early and kept pressure on the Eagles throughout the afternoon. The victory gives the program a strong start it has not seen in several years and adds momentum as the schedule moves forward.
Players and coaches pointed to the work put in during the offseason and fall camp as a key reason for the fast start. That preparation showed up on the field, where South Dakota controlled stretches of the game and answered whenever Eastern Washington tried to close the gap.
The win also gives the Coyotes confidence as they continue non-conference play. A 3-0 record puts the team in a favorable position early in the year and sets up an important stretch of games ahead. South Dakota will look to keep the streak alive in its next matchup.
